Study: Higher Vitamin D Levels Reduce Colorectal Cancer Risk

Increased levels of vitamin D can significantly lower the occurrence of colorectal , a new study has found.

The study of 13,000 people, conducted by the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, the Nation Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society, concludes the increase can cut the risk by 31 percent.

"Our study shows that having higher levels above bone-health ones are associated with lower colorectal cancer," said Stephanie Smith-Warner, a Harvard epidemiologist involved in the research, told The

Sources of vitamin D include fatty fish such as salmon and trout, and milk and orange juice fortified with the vitamin D and dietary supplements. Exposure to the sun also boosts vitamin D levels but isn’t recommended because of the risk of skin cancer.
